When you book a spa stay in the heart of a city, you want to feel immediately enfolded in a state of calm. Happily, it’s easy to find serenity when you spend time at the Guerlain Spa at the super-luxurious Raffles Boston, a luxury hotel and the first Raffles in North America, perched right in the heart of Back Bay.
In fact, from the moment I set foot in the fourth-floor spa, I quickly began slowing down—or maybe it was the hot towel and steaming cup of tea that was swiftly offered to me that did the trick.
Either way, after a few moments of respite and browsing among Guerlain’s heritage fragrances in this special place—there are only a half dozen Guerlain Spas in the U.S.—lots of chill-out options await before your service in one of four treatment rooms. You can take a dip in the hotel’s glass enclosed 20-meter pool, warm up in the adjoining jacuzzi, tuck in for a nap in a dimly lit relaxation room featuring private relaxation pods and soft blankets or rejuvenate in his and hers sauna, steam, and cold plunge showers.

By the time I was called in for my treatment, all the stress of driving in Boston traffic began to dissipate. And, when I spotted the heated spa bed I was going to be cocooned in for one hour, I almost gasped. This was no narrow massage bed. It was oversized and topped with a massive down duvet that I would soon be tucked into.
During Boston Energy, the 60 minute-treatment I opted for, I felt my stiff and sore muscles relax thanks to the use of hot stones tailored for just this reason. As I wiggled my toes in delicious warm booties and breathed in the three Guerlain fragrances I chose that were infused into the massage cream my practitioner was using, I stopped thinking about my lengthy to-do list and, instead, leaned into the power—and importance—of self-care.
