Whether you’re looking to detox in a Nordic-inspired spa, recharge with plant-based cuisine, or find your Zen through guided meditation, there’s a wellness cruise tailored to your needs.
For years, the cruise industry was synonymous with indulgence—lavish buffets, bottomless cocktails, and endless entertainment. But as the wellness movement has reshaped the way we travel, cruise lines are setting a new course, offering everything from onboard fitness retreats and plant-based cuisine to mindfulness programming and eco-conscious spa treatments.
Jill Lindsey is the founder of LASOL, a new online and in-person wellness brand that brings together communities. She went on a Carnival Cruise in college, so in her mind, cruising meant “Disneyland on a boat.” When a friend recently invited her to go on a Virgin Voyages cruise, she had no idea what was in store—including curated yoga sessions, a sound bath on the deck, and a spa with cold plunges and soaking tubs. “The wellness offerings really brought people together in a way that wasn’t just about sitting by the pool drinking,” she says.
Welcome to the new era of cruising, where ships are proving that travel on the high seas can be as rejuvenating as a luxury spa retreat. As travelers seek to maintain healthy lifestyles while exploring the world, cruise lines have adapted, integrating movement, nutrition, healthy living, and sustainability. Whether it’s an early-morning yoga session on the deck, farm-to-table dining sourced from local ports, or detoxifying treatments using organic, marine-based ingredients, wellness at sea has never been more accessible—or appealing.
Plus, there’s something inherently healthy about cruise travel. The gentle motion of the sea and the sound of waves can ease stress and help travelers sleep better. A cruise is a chance to unplug, embrace nature, and foster real social connection—whether over a shared meal or a stargazing session on deck.
Add to that the calming blue views, fresh sea air, and natural light, and it’s easy to understand why so many cruisers return home feeling renewed.

Wellness-Driven Ship Design
Some new ships are being built specifically with wellness in mind. Take the new AmaMagna from AmaWaterways, which was designed to provide an expansive space for fitness and relaxation. At nearly double the width of standard river ships, it houses the Zen Wellness Studio, featuring a running track, pickleball court, and massage rooms. Guests can start their day with sunrise yoga or strength training and dine on fresh, vegetable-forward cuisine designed to nourish and energize. “As an advocate for a healthy lifestyle, I am passionate about offering our guests a vacation that nurtures their physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing,” says Kristin Karst, cofounder and chief brand ambassador at AmaWaterways.
Blue World Voyages is taking it a step further. Set to launch in 2026, the entire cruise line is centered around wellness. These ships will function as floating fitness retreats, with hydrotherapy pools, meditation spaces, and high-performance training facilities catering to travelers looking for an active, health-focused getaway.

Integrated Wellness Experiences
These days, wellness on board isn’t just about checking off spa treatments, it’s about entering a new mental and physical rhythm. Across the cruise industry, there’s a growing emphasis on holistic practices that fuse movement, mindfulness, and modern treatments.
Explora Journeys embodies this with its “Ocean State of Mind” philosophy, blending fitness, sleep, nutrition, and relaxation into every facet of the voyage. There are even Sleep Retreats and Immune Boosting Retreats. “These wellness experiences allow travelers to broaden their horizons and return home feeling rejuvenated and refreshed, having experienced transformation and exploration of the inner and outer self,” says Chris Austin, president, North America at Explora Journeys.
Lindblad Expeditions, in partnership with National Geographic, invites guests to immerse in nature—while respecting it. On ships like the National Geographic Endurance and National Geographic Resolution, wellness reaches new heights at The Sanctuary, a spa retreat inspired by legendary explorer Roald Amundsen. The experience begins outdoors, where guests can soak in outdoor hot tubs with panoramic glacier views. In the evening, guests can book a complimentary overnight stay beneath starry skies in one of two glass geodesic igloos.
On Silversea, the wellness offerings are inspired by the ancient Roman philosophy that living well and being well are intertwined. In other words, wellness is not about self-denial but about indulgence. Guests can enjoy panoramic saunas, candlelit bathing rituals, and in-suite sleep experiences tailored to their preferences—all designed to bring pleasure and rejuvenation into balance.
Celebrity Cruises is marrying cutting-edge technology with tranquility. Offerings include Elemis BIOTEC facials, personalized IV therapy, zero-gravity massage tables, and the SEA Thermal Suite with salt rooms, infrared saunas, and oceanview tile loungers. “We created a fully immersive, next-level wellness experience to meet our guests’ needs,” says Jeannette Coto Dou, vice president of product development at Celebrity Cruises.
At MSC Cruises, the Aurea Spa features hydrothermal circuits with Himalayan salt rooms, snow showers, and vertical Kneipp paths—designed to stimulate circulation and reset the body’s internal systems. “We know our guests value de-stressing and decompressing, which applies to every part of the trip,” says Suzanne Salas, EVP of marketing, eCommerce, and sales at MSC Cruises USA.

Dedicated Wellness Voyages
A growing number of cruise lines are also introducing themed wellness voyages. Windstar Cruises—which operates an intimate fleet of six luxury yachts—has introduced the new Mind, Body, and Spirit Collection for 2025. These cruises offer wellness-themed voyages led by wellness expert Debbie Dixon, offering daily meditation, yoga, breathwork, transformational talks, and healthy dining options. “We understand our guests seek rejuvenation, not just destinations,” says Janet Bava, chief commercial officer of Windstar Cruises.
For its newest ship, the Queen Anne, Cunard has introduced a Wellness at Sea program focused on relaxation, vitality, and recovery. Guests can enjoy meditation, acupuncture, personal training, reflexology, and masterclasses—all integrated into an elegant, oceanfront experience. “Guests can immerse themselves in the very best of luxury travel while nurturing their mind, body, and spirit,” says Katie McAlister, president of Cunard.
Crystal Cruises’ Wellness Retreats at Sea combine fitness, meditation, and nutritional workshops with excursions that connect guests to the natural world. “Wellness on Crystal is a holistic approach to health, focusing on finding balance across the many dimensions of your being,” says Dalila Roglieri, Crystal’s head nutritionist.
Even non-cruise brands are getting in on wellness voyages. COMO Hotels & Resorts, known for its COMO Shambhala wellness brand, recently introduced its first Arctic expedition cruise, in collaboration with Natural World Safari—the first sailing sold out almost immediately.

Wellness Onshore
Wellness cruising doesn’t end at the gangway. Many lines are expanding their offerings with destination-based programs that extend holistic care to the shore. The Explore & Restore voyages from Swan Hellenic—developed with Deepak Chopra’s wellness company—combine daily meditation, self-reflective journaling, and yoga, along with kayaking fjords and rainforest treks in remote regions.
Oceania Cruises offers wellness tours like soaking in thermal waters near Rome, exploring raw food cuisine in Thailand, or exploring sound healing practices in Australia. Regent Seven Seas offers immersive excursions such as tai chi in a Provençal palace garden, hydrothermal rituals in ancient grottos, and Mediterranean culinary wellness experiences.
Sustainability
True wellness isn’t just personal—it’s planetary. As cruise travelers become more conscious of their environmental impact, more lines are responding with initiatives that prioritize both people and the planet.
Ponant is among the cruise lines investing in cleaner energy, operating Le Commandant Charcot with a hybrid engine that combines liquefied natural gas and electric battery power to minimize emissions in fragile polar environments. Havila Voyages sails silent, battery-powered ships through Norway’s fjords.
Other lines are focusing on education and advocacy. Seabourn blends marine science with luxury, offering panoramic oceanview saunas alongside ocean stewardship programming.
Viking has introduced onboard labs for scientists, turning passengers into citizen scientists who help contribute to the research. And Hurtigruten has partnered with scientific organizations to support sustainable travel and educate guests on climate change and polar conservation.
In short, cruise lines are proving that mindful travel can be both transformative and responsible—charting a new course for health-conscious explorers.
